What is Dabbing?

Dabs are concentrated doses of marijuana made through the extraction of THC and other cannabinoids with solvents such as butane or carbon dioxide, which creates sticky oils. Depending on the consistency, these cannabis concentrates are also commonly called wax, budder, shatter, and butane hash oil (BHO). Dabs are typically heated on a hot surface, commonly a nail, and then inhaled via a dab rig. Dabbing is the fastest and most efficient way to get a strong high.

Benefits of Dabbing

When dabbing is done safely using clean, tested products, there are a number of benefits that come with it, mostly in its fast onset and powerful high.

Patients dealing with chronic pain or extreme nausea report dabbing as one of the best ways to get immediate and effective relief.

Cannabis extracts that have been properly manufactured also give consumers a clean and pure product that’s easier on the lungs than smoking or vaping. When you smoke cannabis, the burned plant matter creates resin and hot smoke. But, extracts eliminate most of these unwanted materials while still delivering the essential cannabinoids and terpenes to produce therapeutic and psychoactive effects.

The next benefit to dabbing is one we mentioned earlier, how fast and effective it is. If you need to treat your symptoms ASAP, dabbing may be the answer. Since dabbing uses concentrates, the dosage becomes way higher than with other methods of consuming marijuana. Cannabis concentrate is extremely pure and contains between 50-90% THC — the compound that produces the high associated with marijuana.

Dabbing also gives you more control over the temperature that your cannabis concentrate reaches, meaning you can enjoy the richest flavor possible. Temperatures that are steady and low add to the overall enjoyment of cannabis, allowing you to really taste the flavor in your concentrate.

The high from dabbing, although more powerful, is more clear and produces less of the foggy, slow-motion experience that smoking cannabis does. This is mostly because dabbing involves vaporizing concentrated cannabinoids, whereas smoking involves combusting the plant material.

Is Dabbing Safe?

Dabbing was invented to provide a safer, cleaner, and healthier way to consume cannabis. Instead of smoking cannabis, you inhale vapor instead of smoke that comes from burning leaves.

But, despite these benefits, you still must exercise caution surrounding the dosages of dabbing since they can be a lot higher than other forms of marijuana.

We recommend dabbing for those who don’t love the hazy, heavy feeling that smoking marijuana brings but who still have an interest in using cannabis for its medicinal benefits. Dabbing is not by any means only for medicinal use, but it is an extremely effective use for it. The easiest way to dab is by purchasing a dab pen or a rig and experimenting with some of the concentrates at your local dispensary. As always, your budtender can help you find the concentrate and dosage that will be best for what you’re looking to accomplish with dabbing.
